Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) hosts an annual event to celebrate their massive stable of free-to-play MMO games, as well as an opportunity for them to finally shed some more light on the next Everquest game. SOE's library of current offerings includes: DC Universe™ Online, Dragon's Prophet™, EverQuest®, EverQuest® II, Free Realms®, PlanetSide®2 (review here,) PoxNora®, Star Wars®: Clone Wars Adventures™ and Vanguard® Saga of Heroes. With so many games on their roster, it's no surprise that they host an annual event to celebrate the games and gamers. The event is being held at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on Aug. 1 - Aug. 4, 2013.
In a statement via press release, Laura Naviaux, Senior Vice President of Global Sales & Marketing for SOE had the following to say:
"Every year at SOE Live, our goal is to extend the gaming experience for attending players and the entire Community with the best and most exciting activities, news and updates. In addition to holding meet and greets with the Development teams, tournaments and other annual activities that fans have come to love and enjoy over the years, this year's event will expand to include new titles from our growing free-to-play games portfolio, including Dragon's Prophet and the next highly-anticipated chapter of the EverQuest game franchise."
As a gamer that originally got into MMOs because of the original EverQuest back in the day, you can consider me pretty intrigued to find out where they are taking the series next. Do they plan on having three fully-fledged MMOs set in different time periods of the same universe by having EverQuest 1-3 all live and active? Will either 1 or 2 be put to rest in order to make room for 3? Is this just going to be a spinoff game? Details are scarce at the moment, but I look forward to seeing where it goes from here.
