Earlier this week, independent developer studio Red Barrels Games announced that Outlast will be releasing on PC on September 4th for the retail price of $19.99. The video above is one of the first official trailers that they unveiled for the game late last year.
For those who are unaware, Outlast is a single player survival horror experience that exposes the horrors of humanity as they unfold within the confines of an abandoned insane asylum. Players are thrust headfirst into the shoes of an independent journalist as he attempts to capture footage and uncover the truth behind the asylum. Below are a few screenshots of the game to give players even more of an idea of what to expect:
After having played that demo during PAX East 2013, I must say that the game is definitely a true survival horror experience thus far. Players stay horrified on the edge of their seats and can expect the unexpected. I think that is essentially how most survival horror games should be by default and this has a real shot at being memorable for that very reason. Red Barrels has also confirmed that a PlayStation 4 version of the game will be available shortly after launch.
