Sony has today announced that the PS4 will require a 300MB patch in order to use most basic features of the system, even DVD/Blu-ray playback.
The news comes from a Sony press release and lists all the features that downloading the patch will enable:
That sure is a lot of features that come with the patch! I find it really strange that you can’t even play DVDs until you update the console, surely that shouldn’t require the internet to activate. I understand that most people connect their console to the internet but there is still a reasonable percentage that don’t that will be very confused by this news.
Sony also announced that the low power, suspend/resume mode will not be available at all at launch which is quite disappointing, hopefully that feature doesn’t take too long to arrive.
Let me know in the comments what you think about this day one patch, do you think it is strange that it activates so much or is it not a problem because most people have the internet nowadays?
