Capcom Pulls Bug-Infested PS4 Ultra Street Fighter IV from the Capcom Pro Tour

Bugs! Bugs everywhere!

Ever hear of a deal too good to be true? Well, players, Ultra Street Fighter IV for PlayStation 4 has just experienced the gravity of this phrase.

Take a highly-anticipated game for just $25, add in 1080p and 60 frames per second, throw in its ability to correct input lag from previous versions, and the fact it includes all previously released DLC and you have the makings of a great deal, right? It would be… except for one tiny problem… the game doesn’t work.

People have taken to Twitter to express the numerous issues plaguing the game: everything from glitches, freezing, stuttering and flickering (bring on the seizures). There’s even sound issues and body deformations.

As a result, Capcom issued a statement acknowledging the problems. While the company is working on a patch, the issues are so egregious that Capcom has pulled the game from its own tournament: the Capcom Pro Tour.

The company has released the following statement:

For those experiencing issues and wondering about a patch, we are aware that you are experiencing problems with the PS4 version of USFIV, which was published and developed by SCEA’s Third Party Production group. SCEA and Capcom are currently looking into the issues that some users may be experiencing and are working to resolve them as quickly as possible. We will continue to provide updates on our progress.

A lot of our more competitive players have wondered how the USFIV version of PS4 will affect them and the tour. To that we’d like to advise that the integrity of the Capcom Pro Tour is a top priority for us and we will continue to work with tournament organizers worldwide to ensure that the highest quality event will be run. Each region will maintain its current hardware standard for the remainder of the 2015 Capcom Pro Tour until otherwise announced. We will keep you updated as to when the PS4 version of USFIV will be integrated into the Pro Tour.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Stay tuned for future information.

The even larger EVO tournament, which features SFIV is also considering its options. Joey Cuellar, a founding member of the EVO tournament stated:

For those who aren’t aware, while Capcom backed the PlayStation 4 version of Ultra SFIV, it didn’t develop it. Instead, it was published and developed by a third-party production group within Sony. In a statement over on its Unity Blog, Capcom made this very clear by placing blame on Sony.

The patch is expected to launch pretty soon in order for Capcom to hopefully recover from this disaster before the launch of Street Fighter V in April 2016.
