It was already assumed that the upcoming DOOM would be able to run at a minimum of 1080p/60fps on PC but it was still up in the air as to whether or not the console versions would also be able to run at that resolution and framerate. Today we have word from Bethesda that the game will indeed match these numbers on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
“We want players to wonder how DOOM and idTech 6 games can be so visually stunning at 60 frames-per-second at 1080p on all platforms, when other titles cannot even achieve a similar look at 30 frames-per-second,” said Lead Project Programmer Billy Khan on the Bethesda Blog. “Our goal is to be the best-looking game at 1080p at 60fps.”
This is great news all around. Not only will players across all platforms get to enjoy DOOM at its fullest potential, but any silly fanboy squabbling over which version of the game is better should hopefully be eliminated. Note that 1080p/60fps applies for both single player and multiplayer, which means there won’t be any sort of visual disconnect between the two modes.
DOOM will be released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on May 13. Xbox One pre-orders will come with free digital copies of DOOM and DOOM II for a limited time.
