The Co-op Podcast #89: Should We Label Ourselves as Gamers?

Written by on

Welcome to The Co-op Podcast 89. This week on The Koalition there were two controversial articles covering the use of the word “Gamer.” First it was Tony Polanco writing up his editorial “I Don’t Care What They Say, I’m Proud to Call Myself a Gamer.” Then once Austin Conway caught wind of it he was eager to follow up with his response article “Don’t Be a Gamer, Be More.” Both writers made great points, but is there a right and wrong to this debate? Hear our thoughts on the usage of the word “Gamer” on this week’s episode of The Co-op Podcast. Then, hop over and listen to the cast of The Throwdown speak on the entire Gamer Gate issue.

Also discussed on this week’s episode:

– Nintendo announce new 3DS models
Dragon Quest: Heroes coming to PS4
– Microsoft has an offer where you can get a free game of your choice when you buy an Xbox One next week, even Destiny. Is this a great way to shift attention from Sony back to themselves?
– Our views on Gamer gate
– Plus more

Also, because Austin, Michael, and Charles had a lot to say on the subject of “Gamers,” we decided to record an After Dark debate so they could continue the discussion after the podcast had finished. The extended After Dark file is available below.

This week’s panel: Jakejames Lugo (Host), Richard Bailey Jr. Gary Swaby, Charles Singletary, Edward Velazquez, Michael A. Austin Conway, Will Westwater
