Zenimax Scoops Up Resident Evil Creator Shinji Mikami In Acquisition

Zenimax Media who are best known for being the parent company of Bethesda, has today announced the acquisition of Tango Gameworks. For those who might not be aware, Tango Gameworks operates under the direction of Shinji Mikami who is the original Resident Evil creator. This is definitely a great power move from Zenimax and will allow them to expand even further. Mikami said the following on the Acquisition.

“It’s refreshing to find a publisher who understands, trusts, and supports the development of blockbuster games and works to make it a collaborative effort,” said Mikami. “The library of AAA franchise titles ZeniMax owns speaks for itself. We are very excited to be joining ZeniMax and working with a company that is dedicated to creating the best games ever made.”

Tango Gameworks will remain under the direction of Shinji Mikami, but now they should have bigger budgets to play with. Zenimax chief Robert Altman said the following regarding Shinji.

“Shinji Mikami has earned a stellar reputation as one of the industry’s finest game developers,”

“He has repeatedly created hit titles that have earned praise from fans and critics around the world. We share his vision for innovative, genre-defining games and look forward to working with Shinji and his team at Tango.”

Shinji’s latest work includes Platinum title Vanquish, in which he had a hand on creating. No new projects were announced, but this is the latest in a list of acquisitions by Zenimax. They also acquired id Software and Arkane Studios. It is clear that Zenimax/Bethesda are the publisher to look out for.
