Current Thoughts:
Currently, Skyward Sword feels the least anticipated Zelda game ever! At this point in the Wii’s life cycle I fear that not even Link can save the day and make the console relevant again, especially with Project Cafe just around the corner.
The main thing holding Skyward Sword back it its use of Wii Motion Plus. While Motion Plus seemed like a good idea 2 years ago, the peripheral has since been abandoned by both gamers and developers alike. If gamers want true one to one controls, Sony has a vastly superior solution with the Playstation Move. The truth is, Motion Plus doesn’t work as well as it should and even if I did, most gamers still wouldn’t want to use it. The fact that Motion Plus plays such a prominent role in Skyward Sword terrifies me and I’m sure many others feel the same.
Hopes For E3:
I’m hoping Nintendo will see sense and scrap the whole Motion Plus gimmick. Just give us a Zelda game that is on par with the likes of Wind Waker and I’ll be the happiest man alive. I’m hope that after E3 people will start to look at Skyward Sword as a Game Of The Year candidate and a true threat to games such as Uncharted, Skrim and Gears Of War 3.
I also want Nintendo to show us some of the game’s more unique aspects because at the moment there’s not much to differentiate Skyward Sword from say, Twilight Princess. Nintendo themselves has admitted that the series formula has become stale so I’m eager to see what they shake things up. There is no doubt in my mind that Skyward Sword will be a good game, but for Zelda title being merely “good” isn’t good enough!
