PSN Is Back! Kaz Hirai’s Relaunch Announcement

As I type this, PSN is currently being turned on in “most” world regions. Sony says the entire process will take several hours but after waiting 24 days I’m sure we can hold out just a little longer. Following the news of Firmware 3.61, Sony CEO Kaz Hirai announced the return of the PSN via the PS Blog, you can check out his full address at the end of this article.

The PS store will remain down until further notice but when this first restoration phase is complete, players will be able to sign in to PSN/Qriocity, manage their friend list, sync trophies, play games online, visit Playstation Home and access third party services such as Netflix, MLB.tv and Hulu. Once the store has returned Welcome Back incentives will be in place as a goodwill gesture, however specific details have yet to be announced.

In terms of security, Sony have greatly upgraded their data security systems with the help of “some of the most respected forensic and security experts in the computer industry”. As a result, Advanced security measures,  Increased levels of encryption, Additional firewalls and early warning systems have all been put in place to help keep our personal info safe.
