The 22nd Annual Urbanworld Film Festival Returns

Urbanworld Film Festival, (one of the greatest festivals to feature African-American talent) will kick off its 22nd annual event from September 18th through the 24th.

Featuring a total of sixty-nine diverse selections and seven Spotlight selections that include the highly-anticipated Viola Davis starred, Widows, and Amandla Stenberg’s powerful adaptation of Angie Thomas New York Times best-seller The Hate U Give (please read the book).

Making their appearance at this star-studded event are Tiffany Haddish, Boris Kodjoe, Ramon Rodriguez, Mustafa Shakir, Simone Missick, Malcolm D. Lee, Will Packer, Ava DuVerny and more.

For the kids enjoyment will be the animated film Smallfoot, starring Yara Shahidi, Zendaya, Common and LeBron James. It chronicles the adventures of a young yeti after he discovers human beings, something he didn’t think existed.

Also screening at the festival is Tyrel, starring Jason Mitchell in this fish out of water/only Black guy at this party full of white people tale (Get Out, anyone?).

Then there is United Skates, a captivating documentary that takes a look at the unknown thriving roller skating scene in many clubs across the country—a scene that remains predominantly Black. Check out our interview with the directors to learn how their documentary changed their lives and more.

Opening the festival is Night School, the new Tiffany Haddish, Kevin Hart comedy an our review will officially release on the 25th.
