Hitman 3 was revealed for the very first time during Sony’s PlayStation 5 Future of Gaming showcase event last June. From that moment forward, IO Interactive has continued to share more details about the upcoming stealth game that is currently scheduled to launch on January 20th for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch via cloud streaming technology. With this in mind, the information provided below is an overview of everything we know so far about Agent 47’s next mission.
What Is Hitman 3?
Hitman 3 is the eighth main installment in the popular third-person perspective stealth video game series and the final chapter of the World of Assassination trilogy that started with 2016’s Hitman. When the first game of this trilogy debuted, it was published under Square Enix and released as six episodes spanning from March 11th to October 31st of that same year. This risky release strategy didn’t meet Square Enix’s sales expectations and shortly thereafter IO Interactive retained the rights to the series and published Hitman 2 under Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment on November 13th, 2018. With the elimination of the episodic format, this full-length sequel was praised by fans and performed better commercially as a whole.
Unlike the previous two games, Hitman 3 is being published directly by IO Interactive. Serving as both the developer and publisher on this project, the independent Denmark-based studio aims to end the story off on a high note while slowly shifting their focus towards their recently revealed James Bond 007 project. While they don’t have any concrete plans to entirely end the Hitman franchise for good right now, it is safe to assume that Agent 47 will be taking a lengthy hiatus after this game releases.
Story Details
As displayed in the opening cinematic trailer above, the final chapter in the World of Assassination storyline revolves around Agent 47 teaming up with his friend Lucas Grey to begin searching for the partners of Providence. Players can expect to travel across 6 different locations including Dubai, Dartmoor, Berlin, and Chongqing. Recently released cinematic trailers of some of these locations are embedded below to give fans a general idea of what to expect.
In addition to these location details, Writers Michael Vogt and Nick Price have stated that Hitman 3 will be more mature, serious, and darker tone than the previous two entries. Now that IO Interactive has full control over all aspects of this project, they call tell the story exactly the way it was intended without having to worry about catering to the needs of another publisher or investor. Creating the first two games in the trilogy was a learning process and the expectation is that the final chapter will blow us all away.
Cast of Characters
Hitman 3’s cast of characters includes the following voice actors and actresses:
David Bateson as Agent 47
Jane Perry as Diana Burnwood
John Hopkins as Lucas Grey
Isaura Barbe-Brown as Olivia Hall
Philip Rosch as The Constant
Gameplay
Fans of previous Hitman titles already have a good idea of what to expect from this game. In addition to having multiple ways to eliminate targets, players will be able to unlock new weapons and refine their techniques across constantly changing scenarios. Some higher-profile targets will only be around for a specified period of time meaning that you will need to act accordingly to achieve the most success. Those who purchased Hitman and/or Hitman 2 will be able to import maps, levels, and their progress into Hitman 3. Below is a graphic that displays the next-gen benefits of playing the game on PlayStation 5.
Since Hitman 3 is focused entirely on the single-player experience, fans shouldn’t expect any multiplayer modes. If you do decide to pick up the game on PS4 or PS5, you’ll be happy to know that it does have full PlayStation VR compatibility. This particular feature will work across all levels including those from the first two games in the trilogy. The video below dives deeper into the development team explaining how VR makes this a much more immersive experience than ever before.
