Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted Review – A Spooky Trip Down Memory Lane

Plants vs. Zombies is one of many games that I didn’t get to play when it dropped in 2009. Developed and published by PopCap Games, this tower defense strategy game received critical acclaim and spawned various sequels and spin-offs over the years.

With the release of Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted, publishing partner EA plans to reintroduce this beloved title to longtime fans and a new generation of players. So, after playing this game over the weekend, is it worth checking out? Before I answer that question, here are more details on what you can expect.

Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted Review

Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted is a tower defense strategy game where players take on the role of homeowners using plants to defend their homes during a zombie apocalypse. As zombies inch closer to the house, these plants can be positioned to block, freeze, eat, and shoot projectiles to wipe them out. Players earn currency in the form of sunlight to buy new plants. If the zombies reach your doorstep, they eat your brains, and the game is essentially over.

The various levels include defending throughout the Day, Night, Pool, Fog, and Roof scenarios. This HD remaster includes all of the previously released content, including a new cloudy day mode where sunlight is more scarce, and a permadeath mode titled Rest in Peace, where one mistake can send you to the beginning of your adventure. Local co-op and PVP options are also available for those interested in playing with friends or family.

Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted Review

EA has been dropping remakes and remasters over the last several years, with Dead Space Remake and Mass Effect Legendary Edition being their most recent ventures. Given the popularity of the Plants Vs Zombies franchise, I’m not surprised they would do a remaster, and the $19.99 price point seems reasonable.

Would I recommend Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted? If you’re looking for a fun tower defense game that is equally silly and strategic, then my answer is yes. The tactical nature of this title reminds me of another game I’ll be covering on this channel soon, and if you’re into this type of stuff, you won’t be disappointed. However, if you already played the original game, there isn’t a strong need to play this remaster unless you want to take a trip down memory lane.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
