Civilization: Beyond Earth Preorder Bonus Is a Bunch of Extra Planets!

By preordering the game–it’s now available for purchase through Steam, among other places–you’ll receive the Exoplanets Map Pack. This pack consists of six custom maps for you to play on that were “inspired by real-world exoplanets.” These will be different each time you play on them, as the layout of planets is randomized at the beginning of each game. 2K’s descriptions of the six exoplanets follow below:

  • Kepler 186f: This lush forest planet is one of the oldest known Earth-like planets.
  • Rigil Khantoris Bb: Orbiting the closest star to the solar system, the historical records of this arid continental planet’s settlement are well-preserved.
  • Tau Ceti d: This planet of seas and archipelagos features a booming biodiversity and a wealth of resources.
  • Mu Arae f: Tidally locked in orbit around a weak star, the southern hemisphere of this planet is a blistering desert where the sun never sets, while the northern hemisphere is perpetually in frozen darkness.
  • 82 Eridani e: An alien world of scarce water and wracked by tectonic forces.
  • Eta Vulpeculae b: A mysterious new discovery with unknown terrain.

Sony confirms “reduction in workforce” at inFamous dev Sucker Punch!

“SCEE can confirm a reduction in workforce has taken place at Sucker Punch Productions,” a Sony spokesperson told Eurogamer.

“Sucker Punch is appreciative of the tremendous work team members contributed to the inFamous and Sly Cooper series, and wishes them the best in their next endeavours.”

The studio is currently finishing development of Infamous: First Light, the standalone expansion for its PlayStation 4 launch title Infamous: Second Son.
It’s unclear whether the layoffs are part of a larger restructuring at Sucker Punch or simply the result of the team’s work on the latest inFamous project coming to an end.  [Source]

The arbitrator (not the Arbiter) said in a preliminary injunction that Bungie erred when it stripped music and audio chief Marty O’Donnell of his founders’ shares in the game studio, which has become extremely valuable because of the success of its Halo, which has generated billions of dollars and sold more than 50 million copies, and the excitement around its upcoming Destiny online shooter game. The litigation between O’Donnell and Bungie offered a rare glimpse inside the high-stakes world of one of the best known game development studios on the planet.
