Koji Igarashi, who worked as a producer on the Castlevania series for ten years, has had a noticeable spike in appearances lately. Just last week he was on the most recent episode of Double Fine’s Devs Play to play his most famous work, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. The reason for his media appearances is now clear: he and his team have just launched the Kickstarter for their newest project which is called Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Given how Igarashi worked on the Castlevania series for so long, it’s not much of a surprise that his game is a spiritual successor of sorts to that franchise. This will be a 2.5D sidescrolling action platformer with crafting and RPG elements. It will star a girl named Miriam who uses crystals fused into her body in order to perform magic spells and conjure demons. As you progress, you will collect various crystals which will give you new powers and abilities.
As of now the goal is set to $500,000 but if the game gets more than that (stretch goals), there will be added perks. These include the art book being upgraded to a hardcover ($600,000), a second playable character ($700,000), a Nightmare Difficulty Mode ($800,000), and most interestingly, David Hayter as a voice actor ($850,000).
If funded, the game will be released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Backers will have the option of getting a physical copy of the game if they want.
