Earlier today, EA Sports revealed that New England Patriots Tight End Rob Gronkowski is the official cover athlete for their upcoming Madden NFL 17 video game. This announcement was made during an ESPN SportsCenter broadcast and was accompanied by a first look trailer that is embedded above. Additionally, the box art can be seen below.
Gronkowski beat out the likes of Los Angeles Rams HB Todd Gurley, Denver Broncos LB Von Miller, and Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown to grab the coveted spot. While this is an honor, Madden covers have often been linked to theories of a Madden Curse that typically impacts the players chosen every season. We haven’t experienced this curse over the last few years but given the ongoing legal issues with Tom Brady and the NFL, it’s definitely likely that this might affect Gronk.
As for Madden NFL 17 features, EA promised more balanced ground game dynamics, a deeper franchise mode, and an overall improved presentation. Madden NFL 16 was a fantastic entry in the series and it will be interesting to see how much farther the developers can take things with this title. Stay tuned for more of our thoughts on Madden NFL 17 when we get hands-on time with it at EA Play next month.
Madden NFL 17 launches worldwide on August 23rd for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360. Are any of you planning on getting the game? Please feel free to let us know in the comments section below.
