It’s easy to forget that just this March, HBO announced the TV adaptation of The Last of Us TV show.
Partnering with Naughty Dog, Craig Mazin, the creator of HBO’s Chernobyl (and writer of the upcoming Borderlands movie, directed by Eli Roth and starring Cate Blanchett) will direct the Joel and Elle journey.
In addition he will executive produce and write the series alongside Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann.
Johan Renck, who won an Emmy for directing all five episode of Chernobyl, confirmed he will executive produce The Last of Us and direct “at least” the pilot episode.
Renck has also directed episode of Breaking Bad, Vikings, The Walking Dead, and Bates Motel.
Renck told Discussing Film. “It’s an ongoing TV series. So that’s not something that I will be able to take on to that extent, but I’m part of that series and I will be directing at least the pilot.”
As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter in early March, the HBO series will “cover the events of the original game… with the possibility of additional content based on the forthcoming The Last of Us 2.”
