Steve Zahn Declares in Hulu’s Chad Powers “The Next Quarterback Might Be Someone Right Under Our Noses”

Glen Powell is one of the most charismatic actors in Hollywood, shining in Top Gun: Maverick, Twisters, Hit Man, and Devotion. Now the successful actor will transform for his new role as Russ Holliday in the upcoming Hulu comedy series, Chad Powers.

Inspired by Eli Manning’s character of the same name for the ESPN docuseries Eli’s Places, where the NFL star went undercover at Penn State’s football tryouts, Russ Holiday is a former hotshot college quarterback desperate for a second chance after he nuked his college career with bad behavior. Determined to find success again, he disguises himself and walks onto the struggling South Georgia Catfish’s football team as the talented, affable Chad Powers.

Almost unrecognizable, Powell dons a long and unkempt wig, mustache, and a prosthetic nose. His transformation is similar to the original Chad Powers look executed by Manning.

Chad Powers will also star Steve Zahn as Jake Hudson, the charismatic head coach of the show’s unsuccessful college football program who is about to be put out to pasture when along comes the talented oddball Chad Powers—and with him, one last shot at glory.

As seen in the Instagram video below, South Georgia Catfish is looking for their diamond QB in the rough, as Coach Hudson’s career is on the line. In his 11th year as the university’s head coach, Hudson is in the hot seat at College Football Media Days in Atlanta when he announces the team is going to “have an open tryout to try to find that diamond in the rough [where] the next star quarterback might be someone right under our noses.”

Co-led by Loki creator Michael Waldron, Powell not only stars in the series but also serves as an executive producer alongside Eli and his brother, Peyton Manning. The half-hour comedy series will premiere on Tuesday, September 30. Powell and Michael Waldron co-wrote the pilot.
