LET THE GAMES BEGIN! Well, at least this is what the publishers are saying as they scramble to get their games on sale across all platforms. It’s a race to our wallets, new or old games, doesn’t matter which, is just fine for us consumers. Who doesn’t like a good deal?
With that said, there are SO MANY games to choose from. So the question now is which games are worth picking up? My answer to you is….no answer, it really comes down to the type of games you’re interested in. During this Black Friday / Cyber Monday deal time (it’s more than just a day now), I’ve picked a few of my favorites, and all are currently on sale across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation eShops.
1 – Gears of War: Reloaded $25.99 (Free on Xbox Game Pass) PlayStation Steam
If you know me (and you do), then you shouldn’t be surprised. I will and forever love this franchise. In 2006, Gears of War was the ultimate co-op game. My buddy Mike and I ran through the campaign as if it were a blockbuster rental and due back ASAP. The co-op gameplay was a game-changer, and over 20 years later, Mike and I have completed all the campaigns in co-op, including Reloaded.
This first game had more of a horror vibe and required you and a friend (or AI teammate) to work as a team. Who could forget the night drive in which one had to drive, the other on the spot light on the back to burn the horde of Kryll attacking. This was one of many classic Gears of War moments, and now that it’s on PlayStation, those who never had a chance to play it can do so in all its roadie run glory.

2 – EA Sports FC 26 – $34.99 Xbox PlayStation Steam
Football is life. I could leave it at that and move on to the third game. When it comes to Football (soccer), FC 26 is the cream of the crop. Unlike other sports games, this franchise includes leagues from all over the world with official licenses, and THIS is the main reason why it’s always a must-buy for me. I love my domestic league, MLS, but also international leagues such as the EPL, La Liga, and Serie A.
Ultimate Team is always my go-to play mode, but there are plenty of other modes and tournaments that can be played offline with a variety of control settings, difficulty levels, and camera options to really produce a gaming experience that works for you. I’m big on dribbling, so I use Dynamic camera for offline & online so I can see the detailed footwork animation up close. Definitely a good time with friends and family.

3 – Borderlands 4 – $55.99 Xbox PlayStation Steam
Now, don’t start throwing tomatoes at me just yet. Yeah, the PC performance wasn’t great, BUT I reviewed the Xbox Series X version and had no performance issues. I also have friends who picked this up on PS5 who said the same. I love co-op campaigns, and Borderlands has always delivered in producing a fun jump-in and out 4-player co-op experience.
The story is whacky; the weapons are plentiful, and the gameplay is solid. They added much-needed quality of life improvements, such as spawning a vehicle next to you. This saves time from having to pull up the map looking for a respawn station because a raider blew your ride to pieces.

4 – Mafia: The Old Country (Deluxe Edition) – $53.99 Xbox PlayStation Steam
To be honest, I was on the fence about this one when it was first announced. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Mafia 1 + 2 and reviewed the remastered collection. But with Mafia 3, not so much. So, with Mafia: The Old Country going back to, well, the old country, it was different, refreshing, but felt familiar. The storytelling was a chef’s kiss. Visually, the character models and voice acting are top-notch.
There is no doubt that a ton of work went into making this game, and the attention to detail is insane. I personally feel the key to creating a great single-player game is to have an engaging story that will keep you coming back to see out the adventure. This game does just that and is worth checking out.
5 – Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 – Battle for Brooklyn DLC – $8.99 – Xbox PlayStation Steam (all eShops also have Division 2 Deluxe, which includes Battle for Brooklyn on sale for $24.99)
I know what you’re saying, BUT ADAM, this is an old game, and I would say I SAID new and OLD games in my opening, and Battle for Brooklyn is a NEW expansion for an OLD game. Hands down, Tom Clancy’s The Division franchise is on my Mount Rushmore of top game franchises. It’s the G.I. Joe open-world game I always wanted. MASSIVE, beautifully designed locations to explore, and an endless number of weapons and gear to create multiple loadouts and a plethora of cosmetics to really make every agent unique.
Yes, I’m from NYC, particularly Brooklyn, so this expansion hits home for me, but that’s just a bonus. I’ve had nothing but constant fun jumping into the chaos with 3 of my friends. It brings a tear to my eye when I boot up my console and see friends I put on to this game YEARS AGO still playing it. This is by far one of the best cover-based shooters of all time, and why so many gamers are still playing it 7 years after its release, and why new content continues to be created.
I hope you check out at least one of these games on this list. Again, it’s all about having a good time, and for me, these are my go-to games to do just that. Stay safe and have a great holiday season.
