Nintendo Denies Super Smash Bros. Melee EVO Livestream

UPDATE: Nintendo has now reversed their decision regarding the Super Smash Bros. Melee EVO Livestream. You can find out all the details right HERE.

While Injustice and Killer Instinct will both have a presence at EVO 2013, Nintendo has decided to take the unconventional approach of denying the Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament from being streamed during the event.

This news was confirmed earlier by Kotaku shortly after the EVO livestream schedule was released. An official statement was released regarding the matter and can be seen below.

“Regrettably, we’ve just been informed by Nintendo of America Inc. that we do not have permission to broadcast Super Smash Bros. Melee for Evo 2013”.

This move comes less than a month after Nintendo revealed a new Super Smash Bros. game currently being developed for both the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS. From a business standpoint, I don’t understand the logic behind this move. Given that Nintendo didn’t have a massive conference during E3 2013, one would think that their main goal now would be to build anticipation for their next Super Smash Bros. video game. What better way to do that then by attracting new fans to the franchise by showing off what made Super Smash Bros. melee one of the most popular fighting games on the Gamecube? Of course, when all is said and done everyone knows that Nintendo will be fine and that Super Smash Bros. U will still sell millions regardless.

Are you angry that Super Smash Bros. Melee won’t be streamed during EVO 2013? Do you think this will have any affect on how the next Super Smash Bros. is perceived by fans? Feel free to let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
