Given that Beamdog is handling the Baldur’s Gate IP, hopefully this announcement will be something big. According to a Joystiq article, they spoke with former Bioware designer Trent Oster (who is now from Beamdog) about it, and he clarified it was not related to the Complete Collection that is coming to Steam soon. Hopefully this means it is something bigger than that!
For a lot of people, this would be very similar to Nintendo releasing a sequel to Ocarina of Time; it’s that big. Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II are often regarded as some of the best games ever created, especially the sequel. So, when this nice little teaser image appeared on their main website not too long ago, excitement was understandably high.
Fast forward to today, and on the main website there is now a timer. The timer only has mere hours left on the clock, so what could it be? A big announcement like a new game in the series? Or, maybe it’s just a new website for the series. Whatever it is, people should be paying attention to this, because there is a decent chance that the next great role-playing game from Bioware could be mere hours from being revealed. In fact, if you view the source information for the page, this is at the top of the HTML file:
March 14, 2012 Shadowy Figure- Raise Dead : Infinity Engine It is coming.
If that doesn’t get you excited, I don’t know what will. What do you think about this site? Is it something big, or are they just trolling?
Also: Thanks to CaptSaltyJack for the tip about Beamdog controlling the franchise now!
