Battlefield 4 Reveal Makes Me Want To Throw COD In The Bin

Both a reveal trailer and a reveal gameplay of EA's Battlefield 4 was last night shown in San Francisco as part of GDC. The game is so visually stunning that many people are having a hard time believing that it will be available for current gen tech, and thankfully it will be. Battlefield 4 will of course be running on DICE's new Frostbite 3 engine. We all know that the previous Frostbite engine has been proven to work miracles, so I can only imagine what Frostbite 3 is capable of.

Battlefield 3 itself was gorgeous but Battlefield 4 looks to be such a huge step up that I'm sure EA will now be on even footing with the overly popular Call of Duty franchise.

On the downside Battlefield 4 will now suffer the wave of doubt that Sony faced after they revealed Killzown: Shadow Fall. Either people won't want to believe that the game actually looks that good, or they'll blabber about how it's still just another first-person shooter. Sure it's still a gun on a screen that allows you to look left and right to shoot people, it's a concept that's still overly saturated to this day. But what impresses me about Battlefield 3 and 4 the most is its ability to be a technical anomaly whilst also being able to deliver a fair, balanced multiplayer experience.

Call of Duty on the other hand is starting to feel more unbalanced with every iteration. In Black Ops 2 there was clearly delays that gave other players the advantage when sneaking from around a corner or popping up from an obstacle. These are things I've never experienced in Battlefield 3, and that's just one of the reasons its my FPS of choice.

Dice clearly take a lot of pride in their work and it shows. Be sure to check out the 17 minute gameplay reveal above if you don't believe me.

Battlefield 4 will be available this autumn for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and the PS4. Time to upgrade my GPU.
