Call of Duty: Ghosts has been officially teased by Activision after it was previously leaked online in March. The above video teaser shows various types of warriors, some of them looking like they were hijacked from a certain Bethesda game. No gameplay is shown in the video, but the end of the teaser reminds us to tune into Microsoft’s May 21st event if we want to see the game in action.
Infinity Ward developer Mark Rubin had the following to say about the new Call of Duty direction.
Everyone was expecting us to make Modern Warfare 4, which would have been the safe thing to do. But we’re not resting on our laurels. We saw the console transition as the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter for Call of Duty. So we’re building a new sub-brand, a new engine, and a lot of new ideas and experiences for our players. We can’t wait to share them with our community.
Call of Duty: Ghosts will be powered by a next-gen Call of Duty engine and is already confirmed for the next Xbox console. It is assumed that the game will also appear on the Playstation 4, and it’s already up for pre-order on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. No Wii U version has been confirmed as of now.
With a new direction and new technology to work with I hope Activision will now be able to deliver us a game-changer, much like they did with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. They may even be able to prove their worth against rival FPS franchises such as Battlefield.
I now have extra motivation to watch Microsoft’s May 21st event, and I for one can’t wait to see what both Activision and Microsoft combined have to show us. What extra incentive with they give us to make us purchase this game on an Xbox system? As somebody who doesn’t care about timed-exclusivity with DLC, I’m not sure what Microsoft can pull out the bag.
