Last week, Kojima teased Twitter with new Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid V related items that would be revealed at Tokyo Game Show. Now that TGS is here, the veil has been lifted (somewhat) on what Hideo was tantalizing us with.
Let’s get the boring stuff out of the way first. The Metal Gear Collection isn’t a video game at all but a new clothing line. This collection will have jackets, t-shirts, shirts and more with the Metal Gear Solid V logo on them. This is similar to the Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker clothing line.
I think I can speak for the majority of MGS fans here when I say that this is disappointing. This isn’t a new HD collection for the current-gen consoles and this clothing line probably won’t make it over to the West.

Now let’s get to the good stuff, TRAILERS. This first one is an extended version of the mini preview that was posted last week. In this, we see new character, Quiet drop down into Mother Base and be escorted away by Big Boss’ men.
Before that, it appeared as if there would be an altercation between her and the MSF soldiers (included in the bunch were Kaz and Ocelot) but Boss is able to calm everyone down. I originally speculated that Quiet was infiltrating the base with the soldiers. It turns out that she was handing herself over to Big Boss.
This video comes to us from YouTuber, Kagayaki TGS 2014.
This next trailer is a nice and long one which takes place in an African jungle. If you’re getting flashbacks to Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater then you’re not not alone as this is very reminiscent of it.
Here, we see Big Boss using new abilities. We see him rock climbing by using cracks on the side to scale it. This is of course made easier thanks to his robotic hand which can also be used to create a sonic wave which shows possible locations of enemy targets and to knock them out with an electric shock. He can also place an inflatable dummy of himself to distract foes or even use it to knock them off ledges when the dummy is released. Boss can also blow up wooden bridges (useful for killing enemies which are on it) and throw molotov cocktails as well.
The most exciting thing about this trailer is that Quiet is actually one of your allies and can help you during missions. She can be sent to any vantage point and mark targets for you. She can snipe your foes and can even do so at your command so that you two can simultaneously take out foes and not raise alarms. She can also snipe grenades you throw into the air which will be deflected and hit targets (in this case, an attack helicopter).
This comes to us from Rajman Gaming HD on YouTube.
These trailers show us that The Phantom Pain is going to be a very big game, bigger than we even could have imagined. Kojima and company have gone all out to make a game that has a ton of features which will let players have a wide range of ways to complete their missions. It’s hard to tell exactly what is happening in the trailers because they’re both in Japanese but the footage speaks for itself: this game is going to be massive.
Hideo Kojima has stated that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be released sometime in 2015.
Let’s finish this post with a nice gallery for you from the good folks at MGS.be.
