SimCity Getting An Offline Mode In A Free Update

SimCity is finally adding in an offline mode, nearly a year after the game’s online DRM caused much drama in the gaming world.

The offline mode was revealed in a blog post over on the SimCity website, much explains that the fix is coming with Update 10:

“Yes, Offline is coming as a free download with Update 10 to all SimCity players. When we launch it, all of your previously downloaded content will be available to you any time, anywhere, without the need for an internet connection.

“In Update 10, you can still play solo in Regions on your own, or in Multiplayer with people from around the world….Bringing the game Offline means big things for our wonderful community of Modders. They can now make modifications to the game and its components without compromising the integrity of the Online game.”

It is what everyone wanted and they have finally done it, although it is probably much to late now to matter anymore. People wanted this when the game was released not 10 months later, maybe if the game had launched with an offline mode then all of the launch problems would not have existed and this game would have been remembered much more favourably than it is.

Even though the game will be playable offline there are still many big problems that makes SimCity not as good as its predecessors, such as the size limit of each city being extremely restrictive. I’m afraid that unless they change that then not that many people will be going back to SimCity 2013.

What do you think of this update? Will you go back to playing SimCity? Has this persuaded you to buy it now? Please let me know in the comments below.
