March was a very important month for Sony. They had two major releases with God of War III and Final Fantasy XIII. But did Sony lose some of their thunder with the supposed PS3 shortages and a Pokemon release?
On the hardware side of things, Sony did not manage to outsell either the Xbox 360 or the Wii. The PS3 sold 313K consoles, good but not enough. Xbox 360 went back to 2nd place with 338K and Wii is back on top with 557K. On the software side, God of War III managed to take the top spot with an impressive 1.10m units. Pokemon SoulSilver fell short from the top spot with 1.02m units sold. Final Fantasy XIII is still going strong and now on two consoles with the PS3 version selling 828K and the Xbox 360 version selling 493K. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 proved it’s a real military competitor sellling 825K units on 360 and 451K on PS3. And finally a game I wanna highlight is MLB The Show 10, which came in 10th place selling 349K units, outselling MLB 2K10 for what I think is the first time ever. Looking at the software numbers it seems like this was a great month for publishers and even better for consumers, till next month.
