May 2010 was crazy month for game releases. Literally every week had a release of a notable game. We got to see skaters, cowboys, writers, plumbers, and more, in the month of May. Some games were good, some were bad; Some sold, some did not.
Nintendo is on top with both the DS and Wii selling over 300K respectively. Xbox 360 sold 194K in May and I expect to see a small bump this summer as more retailers start carrying the new 360 redesign. Playstation 3 sold 154K and the PSP seems to have reached a low point by only selling 59K. Hope they get a bump with the release of MGS: Peace Walker, but it seems like Sony made a mistake by pushing for this new Marcus PSP campaign. Should have used that money to market the PS3 even more or given Kevin Butler a bonus.
We all visited the Wild Wild West in May. Red Dead Redemption takes the two top spots with the Xbox 360 version selling 945K units and the PS3 version selling 567K units. Super Mario Galaxy 2 settles for third selling 563K units in one week. Expect to see this title in the top 10 for a few months. The sales numbers for the bottom five were not given but Alan Wake did not perform well. A great game that just took too long to be released, was weakly marketed, and came out the same day as Red Dead. It was sent to die, if you ask me.
