It seemed like such a silly fight. As long time Koalition followers will already know, Bethesda Softworks filed a lawsuit against Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson over his upcoming game “Scrolls”, claiming that the name would be confused with the very popular, and not very confusing, Elder Scrolls series.
Well, unsurprisingly, the dispute has been settled out of court. Notch tweeted today that the issue had been settled, later adding details of the settlement. Basically, Bethesda gets the trademark, and Notch’s Mojang studios can use the name, as long as they promise not to use it to make a competitor for the Elder Scrolls. Good thing, too, as Skyrim has clearly been suffering in the sales department, having only sold millions of copies within days of release and being named Game of the Year by countless gaming outlets.
