Take-Two have estimated that Grand Theft Auto V has already generated $800 million, based just off the first day of release.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick spoke of GTA V’s triumph in a press release:
“All of us at Take-Two are thrilled with the initial response to Grand Theft Auto V, once again, the team at Rockstar Games have outdone themselves, setting the entertainment industry’s new standard for creativity, innovation and excellence.
“Beginning at midnight on Monday, consumers around the world gathered in anticipation to be among the first to experience the evolution of this remarkable series. In North America alone, more than 8,300 stores opened their doors at midnight to welcome fans whose loyalty and enthusiasm were rewarded with what The New York Times called ‘the most immersive spectacle in interactive entertainment’.
“We are incredibly proud of Rockstar Games’ creative achievement and could not be more pleased with the success of this launch. Fiscal year 2014 is off to a great start.”
It is amazing that the game made so much money off of just one day. This clearly proves that Grand Theft Auto is the biggest franchise in the world and that fans love the series. It’s on track to break the record that Black Ops 2 made by making $1 billion in 15 days. In fact, it’s probably already broken it! Let me know in the comments what you think of the game and whether you think it deserves this much acclaim and attention.
Grand Theft Auto V is out now on PS3 and 360. GTA Online releases on October 1st.
