The third game in CD Projekt Red’s Witcher series has finally been revealed as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and promises to be the ‘conclusion of the trilogy’.
The next open world game in the series was revealed with a cover in the March 2013 Game Informer and has this to say about game:
“CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3 takes the series’ dark fantasy universe and non-linear storytelling into a truly open world for the first time. Even if you haven’t been following Geralt’s exploits so far, The Witcher 3 offers a perfect entry point.”
Here is what the Game Informer reveal has to say about the game:
“This standalone sequel takes the fascinating stories and characters, non-linear plotlines, and difficult decisions that the franchise is known for and puts them all in an open world 30 times larger than the previous game – an enormous setting even larger than Skyrim’s vast expanse, made possible with the new REDengine 3 technology that developer CD Projekt RED is debuting with the game. Our huge feature dives into everything The Witcher 3 has to offer, and it’s a lot: the detective work that precedes deadly combat when monster hunting, storylines that weave and twist together between political intrigue and otherworldly menaces, and a tired hero who wants to set things right but can’t put down his swords until his conscience allows – if it ever does.”
The announcement of Geralt’s next adventure means the CD Projekt Red now has two highly anticipated titles. A couple of months ago they revealed their new game Cyberpunk 2077 which judging from the trailer will be a very different game than The Witcher. The fact that The Witcher 3 will be 30 times larger amazes me as The Witcher already had some very big areas, and hopefully the transition into a fully open-world game goes smoothly.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be coming to PC and “all available high-end platforms” in 2014.
