Koji Igarashi, legendary producer of the Castlevania series, has left Konami to start his own studio.
The story was reported over at Polygon, where Igarashi had this to say about his departure:
“I’ve decided to break out on my own to have the freedom to make the kind of games I really want to make – the same kind I think fans of my past games want as well.
“Leaving Konami was a big decision, and not one I took lightly – I’ve spent my entire career there, made many friends, and had a lot of great opportunities – but I hope all the gamers and fans who have supported me in the past will join me in being excited about what comes next. Wish me luck!”
It is always a difficult decision to leave a studio but it seems like it was the right decision for Igarashi. It looks like he wants to make his own games and starting a new studio will allow him to do exactly that. The line “the same kind [of games] I think fans of my past games want as well” makes it seem like he will be making another old school Castlevania style game in the future. I wish him all the best and I am sure he will succeed because of his history and popularity in game making.
