Final Fantasy 7 Remake Will Be “Multi-Part Series”

After finally getting some actual gameplay footage of the upcoming remake of Final Fantasy VII, we thought we might have heard the last from the game until next year. However, Square Enix has just revealed some possibly troubling news regarding the game.

According to a recently released press release sent out by Square Enix, the Final Fantasy VII Remake will be “told across a multi-part series, with each entry providing its own unique experience.” Whether that means the game will be broken up into episodic content (similar to Final Fantasy XIII) or not is yet to be known.

“FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE will be told across a multi-part series, with each entry providing its own unique experience.”

Admittedly, this is a really weird decision for Square Enix to make. The remake for Final Fantasy VII was almost guaranteed to be a slam dunk in terms of sales and anticipation. Breaking up a game like this (an RPG, where hundreds of hours can be spent) into a “multi-part series” is pretty baffling. Square Enix has yet to clarify on just what “multi-part” means, so we’ll be sure to update should they do so.
