/// The Witness Sold “Substantially” Over 100,000 Units in its First Week!

Across all platforms, The Witness has totalled over $5 million USD gross revenue in the first week, and it has sold substantially more than 100,000 units.

This is a good chunk more revenue in one week than Braid made in its entire first year, from August 2008-September 2009. (Braid initially launched on XBLA in August 2008, and it came to Steam in April 2009). Braid was considered a hit independent game at the time. | Source

/// Homefront: The Revolution Will Have Microtransactions, But Free DLC!

Game designer Fasahat Salim explained to Gamespot in an interview that microtransactions will be in the form of loot crates, but won’t offer anything regular players can’t obtain.

“It’s absolutely not a pay-to-win system because everything we’re providing in these resistance crates is available for free in the game through normal play,” he told the site.

“All we’re offering is, for those players that don’t necessarily have the time to invest in the game, to unlock those cool things. It’s basically just a time saver for them; a shortcut to unlocking these things. They pay a little bit of money but they’re not getting anything that’s exclusive to them.”

/// Nintendo’s Second Mobile Game to Feature one of their Best Known Character!

Videogame giant Nintendo on Tuesday posted a sharp drop in quarterly net profit, but it stoked the hopes of fans by promising that its second smartphone game would feature one of the company’s best-known characters.

The company declined to say which of its franchises — which include Super Mario Brothers, The Legend of Zelda and Donkey Kong — would star in the coming mobile offering, but the news gave gamers something to chew on as they await the release of Nintendo’s first mobile app, Miitomo.

Nintendo said it would begin prelaunch registration for Miitomo soon, but didn’t specify a date. When the company unveiled Miitomo in October, it disappointed investors and gamers, because it appeared to be more like a social-networking or messaging app than a traditional videogame.

“The second game won’t be another communication app, and we plan to adopt one of our characters that fans are very familiar with,” Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima said.

Much is riding on Nintendo’s foray into mobile games, which have accounted for the bulk of the videogame industry’s growth in recent years, as the company’s traditional console game business struggles.

/// Nordic Games Acquired Imperium Galactica, Black Knight Sword, Sine Mora and More!

The classic game IP imperium is on the brink of collapse, especially when it comes to preserving franchises which left their mark in video games history. In these dire times, a young and promising alliance from the distant planet of Scandinavia (solar system Europe) holds the future of many of said IPs, which are threatened by the fate of being lost and forgotten, and thus, proved themselves worthy of protection.

After some life-sustaining measures, said alliance, also known as Nordic Games Licensing with its base of operations Karlstad, Sweden, managed to acquire and preserve the following list of IPs:

► Bang Bang Racing (PC, XBL, PSN, Android)
► Black Knight Sword (XBL, PSN)
► Skydrift (PC, XBL, PSN)
► Sine Mora (PC, XBL, PSN, PSVita, iOS, Android)
► Imperium Galactica (PC)
► Imperium Galactica II (PC, iOS, Android)
► Liberty Wings (iOS)
► Ubrain (iOS)
► Scarabeus: Pearls of Nile iOS

The alliance places their trust in the brave warriors of the Nordic Games, in their colony of Vienna, Austria, to take control of the IPs and to handle the day-to-day business (sales and distribution, evaluation of sequels & new content etc.).
