When it’s all said and done someone needs to write a book or do a documentary on Mos Def Yasiin Bey. Just a couple years ago we were supposed to get new music from him and Mannie Fresh, which had a lot of fans happy (and me too, we need more Mannie Fresh in hip-hop).
Bey was arrested for “false documentation” in Cape Town, South Africa over the weekend and is being stopped from leaving the country as of now. In an 11 minute voicemail (they let them go that long? I don’t know, I delete voicemail’s) Bey dropped an acapella freestyle he called “No More Parties In S.A” before addressing the issue about the authorities keeping him and his family from leaving South Africa. Also Bey goes on to say that he’s retiring from the music and movie industry immediately, leaving us one more album this year before he goes into the sunset. You can listen to the full call here.
