/// PS4 Ships 9.7M in Q4 2016, Total Shipments at 57.1M!

Sony announced it shipped 9.7 million PlayStation 4 consoles for the quarter ending December 31st.

That brings lifetime shipment figures of the PlayStation 4 to 57.1 million units. This is compared to lifetime sales (units sold to consumers) of 53.4 million units. That leaves 3.7 million consoles on store shelves or in transit.

Revenue for the quarter decreased 7.1 percent to 2,397.5 billion yen, while operating income decreased 54.3 percent to 92.4 billion yen.

The Game & Network division in the third quarter saw revenue increase 5.2 percent to $5.33 billion, while operating income increased 24.5 percent to $431 million.

/// Jury Awards ZeniMax $500 Million in Oculus Lawsuit!

Of the $500 million, $200 million will be paid by Oculus for breaking the non-disclosure agreement, $50 million for copyright infringement and $50 for false designation. Co-founder Palmer Luckey will pay $50 million and Brendan Iribe will play $150 million.

Oculus is planning to appeal the case.

ZeniMax plans to take another step as it may seek an injunction to temporarily stop the sale of Oculus Rift headsets.

/// Sony Says PS4 Pro and PSVR Are Selling as Expected!

While Sony didn’t include PlayStation VR sales numbers in their latest financial report, CFO Kenichiro Yoshida did offer a brief update in the earnings call, saying it’s “selling in-line with expectations.”

It remains to be seen what their expectations for PSVR are, but PlayStation Europe’s Jim Ryan said at launch that sales would be in the “many hundreds of thousands.” Last month, SuperData predicted that PSVR sales would likely cross one million this quarter.Top of Page

/// Skate 4 Not Happening!

EA has confirmed that at their earning’s call that Skate 4 unfortunately is not development. After their Senior Manager of Communication Engagement tweeted out #SKATE4 last week, EA has today confirmed that the game isn’t in development and unfortunately will not release anytime in 2017 or the first half of 2018.
