Out of Sight Is One Upcoming Indie Horror Game Worth Playing

During GDC 2025, I saw various AAA, AA, and indie video games currently being developed across each platform. Among these games is one upcoming title named Out of Sight.

This indie horror game has been on my mind since I left San Francisco, and I wanted to take the time to explain why it deserves some of your attention.

Out of Sight

Out of Sight is an atmospheric horror game with puzzle-solving elements that alternate between first and second-person perspectives. Developed by The Gang and published by Starbreeze Entertainment, Out of Sight revolves around a young blind girl named Sophie who uses her Teddy bear to escape a horrifying mansion. The main objective of this game is to safely escape the mansion without making too much noise and alerting those who want to keep you inside.

While this concept might sound straightforward, its execution is something to behold. When I started playing the preview demo, Sophie mentioned being held captive for a long time and finally attempting to escape today. As she picks up her teddy bear, the perspective shifts to show her viewpoint while holding the bear.

Out of Sight

When you start walking through the dark corridors, you’ll encounter obstacles posing as mini-puzzles that need solving to move forward. These instances require putting down Teddy in a designated area and using Sophie’s mobility to solve the puzzle. These are the moments where the perspective shifts, and you can watch through Teddy’s eyes while controlling Sophie’s movements around the obstacle. Once the problem is solved, Sophie picks Teddy up again and continues on her path to freedom.

While sneaking out of the mansion, it’s important to try making as little noise as possible. The sound and music make things feel tense, and this same feeling applies when things are too quiet. During the demo, I saw silhouettes and heard noises of the people who were looking for me. At the end of the demo, I was captured and left wanting to try escaping again.

Final Verdict

Although the demo was short, this idea is very well executed, and I’m eager to play the rest of the game. The puzzles are easy to understand, and I imagine they will get more complex as you progress through the game. This, coupled with the dynamic of switching between perspectives, makes the title feel unique and is definitely worth checking out if you’re a fan of the horror game genre. I have linked the demo below for those who want to try it out.

Out of Sight Steam Demo

Out of Sight launches on May 22nd for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Out of Sight VR will also arrive on Steam VR the same day, with Meta Quest and PSVR 2 versions coming later.
