Video Game Release Date Announcements We Expect At Gamescom 2025

2025 has been a great year for video game releases across various genres and platforms. With Gamescom 2025 taking place next week in Germany, it will be interesting to see what exciting news comes out of that show regarding games still due out this Fall and early next year.

After seeing various games showcased at GDC and Summer Games Fest earlier this year, I want to share my thoughts on five specific titles I expect to get confirmed release dates at Gamescom 2025. These predictions are backed up by a few reasons why I believe these revelations will happen. So without further ado, let’s get started.

Gamescom 2025

First up is Mouse: P.I. For Hire, an upcoming single-player rubberhose-style 2.5D first-person shooter developed by Fumi Games and published by PlaySide Studios. This game embodies the spirit of Cuphead and merges it perfectly with what you could expect from modern-day first-person shooters. Mouse is due out later this year for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.

I saw a playable build for Mouse: P.I. For Hire during Summer Game Fest, and it looked spectacular. Having an animation background, I can tell firsthand how hard they worked on this game, and everything seems very close to completion. I’ll be surprised if we don’t get news on a confirmed release date during next week’s event.

Next up is Replaced, a single-player 2.5D sci-fi retro-futuristic action platformer where players step into the role of an artificial intelligence trapped in a human body against its own will. The game is being developed by Sad Cat Studios and published by CoatSink and Thunderful. Originally scheduled to release in 2024, it was ultimately delayed to 2025 to meet quality expectations.

Replaced was playable at Summer Games Fest 2024 and received a ton of praise from various media outlets. If the game is still on track for release this year,  then I expect us to receive an update sooner rather than later.

Gamescom 2025

The next game on my list is arguably the easiest and worst-kept secret about this show: Hollow Knight: Silksong. This upcoming single-player Metroidvania game is being developed by Team Cherry and builds upon the success of 2017’s Hollow Knight. This game is set to release on every console, PC, and macOS before this year is over.

Xbox has already confirmed that there will be a PC and ROG Ally X playable demo for Silksong at their booth during Gamescom. This means it’s very likely we will get a confirmed release date at the show, and I look forward to seeing if that’s the case.

Gamescom 2025

Another game that I’m expecting to get an official release date announcement for is Annapurna Interactive’s Mixtape. Developed by Beethoven & Dinosaur, this upcoming adventure game follows three close friends as they spend one final night together reminiscing over memories while listening to their favorite soundtrack. Mixtape is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Game Pass later this year.

This game offers quite a unique experience and left me fascinated after playing it at Summer Games Fest in June. I believe this game will resonate most with fans of the music and Beethoven & Dinosaur’s previous project, The Artful Escape. I fully expect this game to get a release date next week, as it seems like the perfect time to make this announcement.

Gamescom 2025

The final game on my list is obvious, given that a presentation for this game has already been announced for Gamescom Opening Night Live. Of course, I’m talking about Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Currently being developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, this entry takes place in 2035 and revolves around Black Ops II protagonist David Mason and his team as they encounter a new enemy. Black Ops 7 is still on track for release later this year for consoles and PC.

Given all of the popular feedback that the Battlefield 6 Beta received last week, I fully expect Activision to put on a show when they reveal more about Black Ops 7 next week. We most likely will get a confirmed November release date unless they decide to release it at the very end of October instead.

This small list is just a sample of some news I expect us to hear next week. While I would love to hear release date updates on Gears of War: E-Day and Phantom Blade Zero, I still think those games are a bit further away, and therefore, any news related to this info might not be revealed until The Game Awards in December.

With that said, are there any games you’re hoping we get release dates for at Gamescom 2025? Let us know in the comments section.
