Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver – New Game Details, Soundtrack, Gameplay & More

I can speak for many of those affiliated with The Koalition over the years when I say that we grew up with the Wu-Tang Clan. They were what we listened to, and later on, what we wore, watched, and played on our consoles. Yesterday, Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver was announced at the Summer Game Fest, and I was one of many Wu-Tang fans who were excited at the idea of another Wu-Tang video game. The announcement simultaneously took place during the opening performance of the Wu-Tang’s latest tour.

We haven’t had a Wu-Tang Clan game since 1999’s Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style fighting game, so it’s exciting to think about what a modern Wu-Tang Clan game looks like. Brass Lion Entertainment is the team bringing the game to life, and they based the game on Angel of Dust, a movie produced by Ghostface Killah and directed by RZA.

In an interview with The Verge, Brass Lion co-founder Bryna Dabby Smith stated that this game is “for the culture”. At its core, Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver is a stylish 3-player co-op beat ’em up that encapsulates everything the Wu-Tang collective stands for. Wu-Tang are real superheroes for us, and Rise of the Deceiver speaks to that legacy. Since their debut in 1993, the Wu-Tang Clan has maintained a strong influence in East Asian culture. This is what makes the anime-style visuals all too fitting.

Two major pillars of Hip Hop are music and fashion, and Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver won’t disappoint on either front. The game will have a banging soundtrack built from the ground up, with some Wu-Tang classics being featured throughout the experience. Brass Lion Entertainment described their music design as a dynamic music system where the music reacts to what the player is doing.

There are a slew of remixed and remade versions of Wu-Tang music that fans will recognize, like the awesome rendition of C.R.E.A.M that played during the trailer. Players will also be able to customize their character’s appearance and clothing. The drip has to be on point.

We at The Koalition would also like to give props to one of our gaming media peers, Danny Pena, who is collaborating with Brass Lion Entertainment on the game.

A release date for Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver is currently unknown, but you can add the game to your wishlist on Steam and Epic Games right now. There’s no word on console versions yet, but we’ll cover all developments in the coming months. In the meantime, be sure to check out Wu-Tang: An American Saga (the TV show), as well as the latest album, Black Samson, the Bastard Swordsman.
