Lucasfilm and The Walt Disney Company announced Star Wars: Uprising, a mobile game from Kabam.
Fans who pre-register Star Wars: Uprising will be given a chance to shape the future of the universe and gain exclusive in-game rewards.
Star Wars: Uprising will be the first mobile game to take place after Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi and before Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Players will be able to create unique characters, go on missions, and build their gear and skills, while amassing a powerful crew and cartel to join in large-scale sector-wide battles that dictate the future of the game universe. Players will also be able to engage in real-time co-op with friends against the Empire.
The game will introduce a new chapter of the Star Wars universe that will illuminate dramatic events in the Anoat Sector, inclusive of Hoth and Cloud City, following the Battle of Endor and the death of the Emperor.
Kabam senior vice president Aaron Loeb stated,
Star Wars: Uprising is a deep role playing game (RPG) experience that will immerse players in the Star Wars universe during a unique time following the fall of Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine. The Kabam RPG Studio has taken its collective experience and passion for role playing games to focus on creating a unique and immersive gameplay experience for Star Wars fans and RPG gamers around the world. It is really about building your Star Wars fantasy, of being the character you most want to be in that universe.
Kabam general manager Tim Ernst continued,
We have people from Blizzard, Luca sfilm… we have assembled a true, in the traditional sense, RPG studio.
Players will learn hundreds of abilities and collect Star Wars gear to create the next generation of heroes: Smuggler, Bounty Hunter, Rebel Guerilla, Diplomat, Gambler or someone unique.
“Dungeon Crawler” is how Loeb describes the game’s mechanics. Players will explore discrete game levels, killing enemies with “gesture-based” action and finding increasingly powerful gear. Players won’t have to pay for more “energy” to keep playing, but if they want to get better gear without having to grind, they can get it with cash.
As time passes, players will be able to team up and participate in “large-scale battles” that unlock more and more of the game’s storyline for all players.
While a release date was not announced, beta testing will start over the next few weeks.
