New York Comic Con kicked off with a bang as directors Anthony and Joe Russo (Avengers: Endgame, The Gray Man) joined stars Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt on stage to give fans an in-depth look at their upcoming Netflix film, The Electric State.
The panel was packed as film details were kept under wraps. The Electric State follows Michelle (played by Millie Bobby Brown), an orphaned teenager navigating a society where sentient robots—once peacefully integrated into daily life—are now exiled after a failed uprising.
Michelle’s world forever changes when she is visited by Cosmo, a charming robot who mysteriously connects her to her younger brother Christopher who she believed had died. Determined to reunite with him, Michelle embarks on a cross-country journey through the American Southwest, accompanied by Cosmo. Along the way, she reluctantly teams up with Keats (Chris Pratt), adding a layer of humor and adventure to her emotionally charged quest.
At the panel she gave attendees exclusive insights into the film’s themes, aesthetic, and production process, while the Russos detailed how the story blends action, nostalgia, and emotional depth, promising a cinematic experience that combines spectacle with heartfelt storytelling. They emphasized that the film explores universal themes like family, identity, and hope, all wrapped in a unique visual style inspired by 90s culture with a futuristic twist.
In addition to the discussion which featured robots, the audience was treated to a full trailer and a behind-the-scenes sizzle reel that featured Pratt showing Millie Bobby Brown a collection of nostalgic 90s items—many of which she had never seen—offering a fun glimpse into the film’s cultural influences.
