The Best Poker Video Games for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC

A player who wants hold’em on a console or a gaming PC, with no real money involved, has a short list to choose from. Several of the older poker titles for PlayStation, Xbox and PC have been pulled from online stores, and the games still on sale differ widely in price and in how much depends on other players being online. Telltale’s Poker Night 2, one of the better-reviewed examples, has been unavailable to buy since 2018, when its distribution agreement expired.

Poker Night at the Inventory

Telltale Games released the original Poker Night at the Inventory in November 2010, and it was taken off sale in 2019 when the studio closed. Skunkape Games, a small team of former Telltale staff, brought it back as a remaster on March 5, 2026, for PC through Steam and for PlayStation 4, priced at $9.99. The original was a PC release, so the remaster is the first time the game has appeared on a PlayStation console. There is no Xbox version.

The other 4 seats at the table belong to characters from other series, namely Tycho from Penny Arcade, Max from Sam & Max, the Heavy from Team Fortress 2 and Strong Bad from Homestar Runner. The characters trade jokes and stories between hands, while the poker itself follows standard Texas hold’em rules. The remaster has new lighting and rebuilt poker code, and the studio says the computer opponents now make decisions that fit each character’s style of play. Players can also unlock a set of Team Fortress 2 cosmetic items that are available nowhere else. The 2013 sequel, Poker Night 2, seated Sam, Ash Williams from Evil Dead, Claptrap from Borderlands and Brock Samson from The Venture Bros. at its table, with GLaDOS from Portal as the dealer, and it reached PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as well as PC.

Prominence Poker

Pipeworks Studio built Prominence Poker as a free-to-play poker RPG. It entered early access on Steam in May 2016, reached PlayStation 4 on August 23 of that year and had its full release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in December 2016. The setting is a fictional city called Prominence, founded by crooked gangsters. The story mode sets the player against the leaders of 4 rival factions before a final game against the city’s founder, known as the Mayor. Only 2 of the factions, Hearts and Clubs, were playable at launch, and the developers have said the boss designs drew on the film Snatch.

Most of the game takes place at online tables against other players, and the studio cut each table from 9 seats to 6 to shorten the wait between turns. A Bluff and Tell system lets players watch opponents for nervous habits, and a detailed character creator includes clothing and accessories, some of which are sold as optional in-game purchases. Early reviewers praised the table play but complained about long waits for multiplayer matches.

Pure Hold’em

VooFoo Studios developed Pure Hold’em with Ripstone as publisher, a year after the same pairing released Pure Pool, and it came out in 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game offers a single format, no-limit Texas hold’em, and most of its effort goes into presentation, including a range of themed card decks sold as add-ons. Reviewers who enjoyed it singled out the attention to detail. Reviewers who did not pointed to the launch price of about $20 for so narrow a game.

A later update added new tournament formats and a Steampunk card deck to all 3 versions. Every table follows standard blinds and betting rounds, the structure used for playing poker games at a live table.

Poker Club

Ripstone returned to the genre with Poker Club, released on November 20, 2020, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S, at a price of $21.99. A Nintendo Switch version followed in November 2021, and cross-play puts players from every platform at the same tables. It arrived days after the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X and S went on sale in November 2020, with versions for both new consoles from the first day.

At launch, reviewers reported failed connections to tables and avatars that did not load, problems that later patches improved. In September 2021 Ripstone added monthly themed tournaments with limited-time cosmetic prizes, beginning with a pirate theme. The main remaining complaint is pace, since the game pauses between turns and between rounds for longer than most players expect. Its Steam page shows a Mixed user rating, and the character customization and the look of the tables are the features reviewers praised most.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 is an open-world western, and its poker is a small part of it. Rockstar released it for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018 and for PC in November 2019. Every one of Red Dead Redemption 2’s card tables deals a version of Texas hold’em. The game introduces it in a Chapter 2 story mission called Who Is Not Without Sin, in which Arthur Morgan takes a seat at Flatneck Station in place of the gang’s preacher, Reverend Swanson. After that mission there are tables in Valentine and Saint Denis, and members of the gang will also deal a hand at camp. Buy-ins are small, around $1 to $5 in the game’s currency.

The poker is a side activity, alongside blackjack, dominoes and the knife game Five Finger Fillet. The game also offers poker in its online mode, Red Dead Online, where players can open private tables for friends.

Balatro

Balatro uses poker hands as the basis of a single-player roguelike, and it is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. It contains no betting at all, and its hands use the names a hold’em player already knows, from two pair up to a straight flush. It sells for $14.99 on Steam, between the $9.99 Poker Night remaster and Poker Club’s $21.99.

It has also been part of both major console subscriptions. Balatro arrived on Xbox Game Pass on February 24, 2025, alongside a free update with crossover Jokers from series such as Fallout and Assassin’s Creed, and in May 2025 it was one of 3 titles in the PS Plus monthly lineup for PlayStation Plus Essential members, who could claim it on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 until June 2.

The Most Widely Owned Hold’em Tables

For many PlayStation, Xbox and PC owners, the nearest hold’em table is already on their hard drive. It comes with Rockstar’s western, and after the Chapter 2 mission that introduces poker, a player never has to sit down at a table again. Take-Two reported in August 2026 that Red Dead Redemption 2 had sold more than 87 million copies.
