Remember when Activision made this estimate predicting that the PS3 would outsell the Xbox 360 this year? Well they may have been on to something. Microsoft reported last week that it had sold 10.3 million consoles in its last financial year, which ended June 30. Sony then went on to confirm this week that they have sold 14.3 million PlayStation 3s in the same period. So that means that the PS3’s total sales now stand at 38.1 million, and the gap between the two consoles is 3.6 million units. Apparently it was a mix of the PS3 Slim being launched and the consistency of the exclusives for Playstation 3 that contributed to these numbers. Microsoft has now introduced it’s very own slim model, which may completely turn the tides on Sony. But for now the numbers remain as you see them now.
Those are some fancy numbers to analyze, but it now brings about the discussion of if and when Sony’s Playstation 3 will surpass the sales of Microsofts Xbox 360. It is a topic which is likely to make fanboys start acting like football hooligans. Let us know your thoughts.
