M.O.P are this week’s selection for Throwback Thursday with their 1998 track titled “Breakin’ The Rules”.
“Breakin’ The Rules” kicks off M.O.P’s third album titled “First Family 4 Life” which was released 15 years ago, this week.
Long-time M.O.P collaborator and producer, DJ Premier takes the production responsibilities on this track. However, his work doesn’t finish there – he also performs the hook! Not the typical DJ Premier samples pieced together to orchestrate a hook but Premo blessed the mic on this track for M.O.P.
DJ Premier produced 4 other tracks on the album including a beast of a Gangstarr collaboration, “Salute Part II” which contains a sample from Uptown, which sounds a lot like our very own Editor-in-Chief, Richard Bailey.
Although they have been working on solo projects, M.O.P are still going strong and DJ Premier announced that he will be working on a new collaborative album with the Mash Out Posse in the near-future.
“First Family 4 Life” was critically well received and is still available on Amazon.
