/// Rebellion Working on Battlezone 1998 Remaster!

Dear Battlezone fans

Firstly, thank you so much for all the great feedback we’ve received following the unveiling of our Battlezone reboot for virtual reality devices.

Having to keep quiet about something we’re crazy excited for has been a challenge, so to finally showcase it at E3 and see so many people just as excited for the game was really gratifying.

As our teaser trailer revealed, our VR version of Battlezone is very much a reboot of Atari’s 1980 arcade classic, a game we’re very fond of at Rebellion. However, we also know that a number of you are fans of the 1998 and 1999 Battlezone games released by Activision that re-imagined the franchise as a groundbreaking hybrid of FPS and RTS gameplay. Naturally when we made our announcement last week some of you asked, “But what about the newer Battlezone games? What are you doing with them?”

Well, we’ve read your comments, articles, emails and posts and we’ve seen your love for these games – so we wanted to make another brief announcement:

We’re very pleased to reveal that we’re also working on a remaster of the 1998 Battlezone for PC.

It’s still early days but when we’re ready to show you more you’ll be the first to know. All we can say for now is that whichever vision of Battlezone you love, you’ve not been forgotten!

Thanks for reading, The Rebellion team

/// Rumors Mark Cerny was working on The Last Guardian “totally wrong”!

“The way the rumor was written is not true. Mark has been helping many of our teams, the same way he’s giving advice to The Last Guardian team, especially on the technical side – he has deep, deep knowledge of the PlayStation 4,” Shuhei Yoshida told GamesIndustry.biz. “Different teams need different types of help and we have the central tech group as well, these teams have also been helping too. So the rumours had it that Mark Cerny and the Knack team were finishing the game, that’s totally wrong.” “It’s an internal Japan Studios development so when one project finishes like Knack or The Puppeteer, these are done internally, the members move to other projects. In that way they share the resources.”

/// Steam Will No Longer Give You Back Items Lost in a Trade Scam!

According to Valve, giving users back their lost items had an effect on these items’ market value, which is one of the reasons for the policy change. “Our community assigns an item a value that is at least partially determined by that item’s scarcity. If more copies of the item are added to the economy through inventory rollbacks, the value of every other instance of that item would be reduced,” said Valve. Top of Page

/// EA and Visceral’s Star Wars Game Inspired by Uncharted and 1313!

During the same panel where veteran voice actor Nolan North talked about writer Amy Hennig’s departure from the Uncharted 4 team, he also made the Visceral Star Wars game slightly less mysterious.

“If you’re a big fan of Amy Hennig and her style of story, she’s gone to EA and is going to reboot a brand new Star Wars franchise in the style of Uncharted,” he said during a Q&A panel panel at MetroCon. “I happen to know a lot about it and it’s going to be awesome.”

When asked if it was the Star Wars 1313 game, he said “it’s different, but along the same lines.” [Source]

/// Naughty Dog Scrapped 8 Months’ Work when writer Amy Hennig Left Uncharted 4!

Speaking to the audience in a Q&A panel at MetroCon, North said, “We had shot 8 months of her story and it was all thrown away. The Last of Us guys came in, and you have to understand, new producers, new people, they want to do it. I don’t know what happened exactly.

“Amy is still a very dear friend of mine and she’s brilliant but the Last of Us guys were the next team there so they took over and they just wanted their own flavour. They got rid of some of the other people that were involved and just redid their thing.”

North added that the new script has a different tone to Hennig’s, but still true to Uncharted story. [Source]

/// “We will continue making 3DS and Wii U software”, says Iwata!

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has told investors it doesn’t make business sense to abandon the 3DS and Wii U just because a new console is on the horizon.

“The NX is new hardware, and will start from zero,” Iwata said during a recent investor briefing.

“However, the 3DS and Wii U have install bases. Immediately cutting off software for previous hardware upon the release of a new machine is inefficient. We will continue making 3DS and Wii U software while preparing for the NX.

“We are prioritizing satisfying customers who purchased the Wii U,” Iwata added, suggesting Nintendo knows early adopters of the console feel let down by its software line up. [Source]
