Otanime Ep. 03 – “Macross the Stars”

Written by on

Welcome to another episode of Otanime! This show is all about geeking out over animation produced by the Japanese. Each month we’ll talk about the latest anime series and movies and of course, talk about the old-school stuff which everything is built around.

On this month’s episode of Otanime, we discuss our Anime of the Month which is Super Dimension Fortress Macross. This show is one of the pillars of mecha anime and also the show that popularized anime in America with (the infamous) Robotech. We discuss all of the major characters, plots, subplots, and battle sequences of the series. In addition, we also talk about the movie Do You Remember Love?, and about Robotech and Harmony Gold sitting on the Macross licence.

Before we get into the Macross discussion we give our thoughts on the end of Parasyte: The Maxim. This was our anime of the month in the last episode so we wanted to talk about how the series wrapped up and how it all came together

As always, we talk about the anime we’ve been watching and the anime we are anticipating. We also detail the anime of the month for April. This time, we will be discussing Hunter x Hunter. We’re adding a bit of a twist as we will be skipping ahead to a further point in the show. The Chimera Ants arc will be our main focus so if you want to follow along with us, make sure to watch that arc.

Starting this month, we want you guys to list anime that you want us to spotlight for the July episode of Otanime. At the end of May, we’ll collectively pick an anime that you guys list in the comments and watch it. The same rules that we on the show abide by apply: It has to be a movie, a series of 26-ish episodes, or a complete arc. Again, write down the anime you want us to discuss in June and we’ll pick one.
