As we get closer to Sony’s answer to the motion gaming craze created by the Wii, it seems like Sony isn’t expecting their Move controller to be anything other then an EyeToy.
Speaking to the good folks at Eurogamer, Sony’ revealed their expectations for the PS Move and it sounds like they are trying to play it safe but at the same time ruin the Move’s potential by saying it will be an EyeToy type of experience. Last time I checked that was a flop, but don’t tell that to Sony.
Sony Computer Entertainment senior vice president Ray Maguire told Eurogamer regarding Move’s impact.
“Am I expecting a massive day one? Not particularly. We didn’t with EyeToy, either. It went on to be “massively successful”.
He also said he expects the Move to sell via word of mouth, expects Microsoft’s Kinect buzz to be challenged via worth of mouth.
“As always they’ll look at the facts, consult with their friends, and make a decision based on both those elements,”
“As people saw the value when they tried it they told their friends. Their friends bought it. They told their friends. Word of mouth grew the marketplace. That’s what I expect from Move as well.”
Maguire also wants the word of mouth to let those interested about the fact Move isn’t just a casual device, but that hardcore gamers will also find interest in it.
“It’s not only about the keepy-uppy and the wishy-washy. We’re starting to think about Move and how you use that in games like LBP or Killzone, some major games. With that attitude it starts becoming less of a novelty and more of just another way of enjoying the games we all know and love.”
