The PS3 version of Mortal Kombat, released today, comes with Kratos of God of War fame. So, the question lies: Why doesn’t the 360 get a cool exclusive character? Master Chief from Halo? Marcus Phoenix from Gears of War? Or even someone from the Killer Instinct universe since Microsoft owns Rare now. Any of these would have been welcome additions to at least try to even out the playing field.
Well, as it turns out, Ed Boon and the folks behind the game actually wanted to include somebody. In a recent talk with Eurogamer, Boon explains further, while still remaing pretty cryptic due to contractual obligations I’m sure:
“Unfortunately, the circumstances didn’t allow us to make a 360 exclusive,” was all Mortal Kombat boss Ed Boon could say when quizzed by Eurogamer.
“I’m not allowed to talk too much about it, but I can tell you we certainly wanted to do an exclusive for 360, but that’s all I can say. It was not a decision we made where we said, oh, let’s not do one for the 360.”
“Anybody who’s really knowledgeable about the Xbox video games, the big titles, names like Master Chief from Halo, Marcus Fenix from Gears of War, and any other Xbox exclusive title, is going to come up in a conversation in talking about it. So clearly we’ve discussed it.
“But, like I said, it wasn’t something we decided, no, we don’t want to make a 360 version of a character.”
Too bad 360 owners don’t get an exclusive character, maybe in the near future in the form of DLC something will happen! Keep your fingers crossed!
