Earlier this week, Microsoft confirmed via their blog that Gears of War, and Shoot Many Robots will both be available for free during the December “Games With Gold” promotion.
The promo kicks off with Gears of War which will be available for download to all Xbox Live Gold subscribers from December 1st to December 15th. This infamous third-person shooter was one of the signature Microsoft exclusives when it released on the Xbox 360 way back on November of 2006. If for any reason you never got a chance to play this game, then now would be the perfect time to do so for free.
On December 16th, the promo will continue with Shoot Many Robots taking over as the free game for the rest of the month. This action platformer pits multiple players up against an intense robot uprising. Shoot Many Robots was developed by Demiurge Studios and published by Ubisoft.
After hearing about both of these games being offered for this month’s promotion, I would have to conclude that Microsoft has absolutely no plans to make this a worthwhile service for any of their gold subscribers. Gears of War is especially a disappointing addition because the game is 7 years old and I’m pretty sure that everyone has had a chance to play it by now. Microsoft is expected to bring the Games With Gold concept to the Xbox One in 2014. While many may see this as a chance for them to offer better titles, I do believe that it would be in everyone’s best interest to lower their expectations.
Will any of you be planning to download Gears of War and/or Shoot Many Robots? Will the Games With Gold Xbox One service offer better titles? Please feel free to let me know your thoughts on the matter in the comments section below.
