The indie scene is full of some fantastic looking horror games, such as The Amnesia series, Among The Sleep, and, my personal favorite, Lone Survivor. Earlier today, Hailstorm Games released a teaser on YouTube for its entry into the horror genre, Claire.
Not much is shown within the 24 second clip of the alpha, but from what I’ve seen Claire looks to hit the right horror notes. While the characters and graphics are rough, which is generally not a bad thing for the horror genre (not to mention it’s still in alpha), the contrasting light and shadow effects stood out the most. The game also takes place on a 2D plane, and it reminds me a lot of Lone Survivor.
Luckily, Haistorm Games provides a bit more information about Claire on their Steam Greenlight page.
“Claire is lost and terrified as she and her dog find themselves in a warped reality that is a nightmarish reflection of their own. Alone and hunted from an unknown force lurking in the darkness, Claire’s only hope comes from helping the forlorn people she comes across. But as Claire searches for a way out, she begins to unravel a connection between herself, the people she is trying to redeem and the force stalking her from the shadows.”
Claire will use a variety of light-based weapons, such as flashlights and flash bangs to disperse enemies. The game will also become scarrier depending on Claire’s own anxiety. Players will have to prevent Claire from panicking if they want to survive. The events in Claire will take place in different stages of her life such as childhood and adulthood.
Even though there’s only 24 seconds of footage, I’ve already got the game in my radar. Feel free to vote for the game on Steam Greenlight if you like what you see.
