Xbox One Will Only Work In 21 Countries At Launch

Xbox One hasn’t had the best week and there is more bad news to come, it appears that the system will not be widely supported at launch and only will be available in 21 countries, excluding some major markets such as Asia.

According to this Xbox Live page, the consoles will only be able to work in the following countries.

Australia
Austria
Belgium
Brazil
Canada
Denmark
Finland
France
Germany
Ireland
Italy
Mexico
Netherlands
New Zealand
Norway
Russia
Spain
Sweden
Switzerland
United Kingdom
United States

Microsoft have stated that Asia will get the Xbox One in ‘late 2014’ and Japan at some point in the future but this seems like a terrible decision. For a console to be successful you need a strong install base and people in those areas who want a new console are going to have to get a PS4, meaning that they won’t need an Xbox when it eventually releases in their country.

Please let me know in the comments if you can make any sense of this decision, because I currently can’t.

Just for fun, here’s a handy comparison of where your next-gen consoles will work worldwide:
