Square Enix have announced that Final Fantasy 7 cannot come to iOS and Android because of the current space limitations on phones.
Takashi Tokita of Square Enix spoke to Shack News, where he gave the bad news:
“Unfortunately, it’s not that it’s not impossible for us to develop Final Fantasy 7 for mobile. It’s that currently, space will be an issue. Phones won’t be able to contain the space it takes. It’s over a gigabyte. It’s definitely going to be years before we do the port.”
In some ways this is good news, it means that eventually everyone will get a mobile version of Final Fantasy 7. However it is very bad news that we will have to for so long. The recent PC version of the game was 3GB and currently Apple has a 2GB limit for their apps, meaning that it can’t be released until that limit is changed or until phones get a lot more storage space.
Fortunately for all of you impatient people there is about a million ways to play Final Fantasy 7, so there’s no point in complaining about it. Why not start a new game right now? Just to pass the time.
